Audrey decides to try for a lasting peace with her neighbor 300-word flash.

Walking for Peace

Audrey opened the door to leave her house, only to bump into something solid as she turned to close and lock the door.
“I don’t believe you! Now you’re coming right to my house to harass me!” she said to the stout woman that she’d run into.
“Audrey, I’m not here about our disagreements from the past…” her neighbor said.
“Oh really? Do you have some new things to complain about?”
“I’ve been watching…”
“Maury Povich? Judge Judy? You want to air our differences on some sleazy talk show?” Audrey was gathering steam in her wrath.
Her neighbor continued to shake her head. Audrey ran out of anger.
“I’ve been watching the Tibetan monks as they walk for world peace. I was wondering if we could take a much shorter walk and make peace between us.”
Audrey sighed and gestured her forward. Her neighbor’s smile was brilliant. Together, the two women began to walk around their block. As they walked, they began to talk.
Sometimes they shouted, others they whispered. By the time they had done five circles of the block, they had ironed out a truce. Both women were happy with what they had accomplished. They parted company at the end of Audrey’s sidewalk. As her neighbor walked away, Audrey hurried to her car, go in and left to go grocery shopping.
“Should I bring her a peace offering, I wonder or should I wait and see if the peace holds?” Audrey asked herself.
As she pulled into the mall parking lot, Audrey decided to wait. “After all, either one of us could break the peace, so maybe next month, I’ll know better how I feel about whether peace is even possible between us. It takes at least two parties to make a lasting peace right?
