Intro to Veterans Group

Hello To Veterans Group,

Thank you for your service.

Thank you for allowing me to join. I want to begin by saying that I was never enlisted in the military myself. However, my husband attended Test Pilot School at the Navy Warfare Center in Patuxent River, and as his wife, there was an expectation that I be involved in the community. That year became one of the most fascinating and meaningful seasons of my life. I loved getting to know everyone and made friendships that have lasted to this day.

The Navy kept us both busy with hard work, social events, and the steady rhythm of supporting one another. Much of that year was filled with good memories, but it was also marked by tragedy. During the second half of our time there, we lost two in a crash, one Navy officer and one Marine officer. It was a difficult loss for everyone. If you ever wish to know more, I plan to write a story about it for the “Honoring Our Veterans – Challenge.” Only the names will be changed, as they say, to protect the innocent.

My husband and I are now both retired and living in North Carolina, although he would argue that I do not really understand retirement since I still work. He likes to remind me that retirement is supposed to mean not working at all. I just smile and tell him I love what I do too much to stop. I doubt I will ever stop writing unless my brain decides to shut down. Along the way, I have made some wonderful friends who ask for my help with their work, and I try to support them whenever I can.

A little about my family. We have one daughter and son in law who live in Georgia. We have one granddaughter and two step grandsons, along with step great grandchildren, one great grandson and a brand new, one week old great granddaughter. And of course, we have our wonderful support dog, Bella.

I look forward to reading all your stories as time allows and getting to know everyone here.
