Flash Fiction

Lunch Time

“You’re going to get in trouble.”

Sandy looked up, there was a guy. “Why?”

“You’re not supposed to pick those flowers.”

“Their pretty.”

“Yes, do you know what they are?”

“No.”

“I can’t remember their name either.”

“Oh?” Sandy said, running her hands over the lovely flower. “I’m not going to pick it if that’s what you’re worried about. I wondered if it smells lovely?” and she leaned in close actually touching it with her nose trying to smell its fragrance.

“Stop!” Jim yelled.

“I’m not hurting it!” Sandy said,

“It’s hurting you!” Jim yelled.

“You’re so funny, I’m not falling for that.”

“Why don’t people ever listen to me! That’s a poisonous plant with poison flowers. You shouldn’t even touch it let along sniff it up your nose!”

“I don’t believe that, this plant is too lovely!”

Jim saw her face getting redder, “Go wash it off quickly!”

“No, it smells so wonderful!” she said, as her neck and her hands started turning pink, and then blueish.

“Look at yourself!” Jim said!

Sandy held up her hands, all swollen and now turning green. “Oh, this?” she said quietly. “This is just my lunch bag opener.”

“What?” Jim yelled.

“It’s lunch time…” and suddenly Sandy melted completely into a round ball. “Sorry” she said, as she rolled over Jim completely. “I tried to warn you. Then she popped back into a human form.

“Warn who what?” a voice came from behind. She turned to find a lovely blond guy standing there.

“Oh, you missed it… You can come tomorrow and watch…”

“Oh, unfortunately I’ll be back in Utah then,” he said.

“Well, nice to meet you,” she said, hope you come back, you look yummy!”

“What an oddball!” the guy thought, not knowing he had just saved his own life…
