| My current project i have been stuck on for 20 years is Rise of Refuge. It's a novel about a group of inter-dimensional troubleshooters focused on their second leader's rise to power and ultimately her death. That right there is my problem. I love Annette, she is a kind, honest, good leader. She will do anything for her people, including die for them. The villain of the piece is a Borg like collective assembling itself out of 7? parts made up of various parasites. Turns out Annette is the only known individual with an immune system strong enough to battle the hazards all be it on a one on one basis and the group’s medic helps her to turn that into a cure which can free people from the collective and restore their free will. Unfortunately this is at a physiological cost to Annette. The secondary plot is follows Annette’s personal life as she falls in love, marries and has a child. The pregnancy and delivery nearly kill her because of the testing they have been secretly doing on her immunities. In the end the damage to her system will be taken one step too far when she takes a hit meant for an entity that could provide the collective a way around the cure. If he had been assimilated it would have been over for the multiverse. Annete takes the hit and it kills her. I have the whole book outlined, about half of it written but I just can’t push through to the part where she begins suffering and dying, I love her too much to kill her. Later books it is discovered she had simply passed into a neutral state where she was trying to heal herself but for all intents and purposes the end of this book is her death. At the very least it her end as a leader. I’m emotionally blackmailing myself not to write it. The series has moved on without this book for so long anyway. I don’t know what WdC can do to help me finish this book. If I knew I would have asked for help… 356 words prompt ▶︎ |
