I never saw it coming, until it was too late

Your smile lit up your face
Like sunlight brightens a dark path.

With charm as slick, sweet, and sticky
         As butterscotch toffee.

Your mirage drew me into your arms,
         And gently laid me back.

The soft contours of your face, deformed
         Into something demonic.

Sapphire-blue eyes clouded over charcoal black.

Pure evil stood in the replacement
Of the man I once loved.
