Chapter 4 – Called Calamity

Overview

The forceful succession of Shingeki by Kazui within the Senate sent massive turbulence across the world. Pravan called an emergency meeting to address the crisis. Chrono and Shingeki now stood as two sides of the same coin—

but the coin itself had been tossed by someone else.

The Lord’s Chamber was drowned in silence.

An uneven breeze slipped through the open window, slicing through the sunlight and piercing the minds of those present—Byakuya, Pravan, and the Army Chief. The air felt strained, as if the world itself were holding its breath.

Pravan ran his fingers through his hair.

“Quiet… and unexpected,” he muttered. “Even Shingeki has never behaved like this—especially within its own continental senate.”

The Army Chief of Chrono, second only to the Lord himself, stepped forward.

Kritangya spoke firmly.

“My Lord, on my orders, two spies have already been dispatched—to gather intelligence and negotiate with surrounding nations, urging them to align their sovereignty with Chrono.”

At his words, a brief gleam crossed Pravan’s face.

Byakuya’s, however, darkened.

Byakuya turned sharply toward Kritangya, astonished.

“Why wasn’t I informed first? If they’re caught—do you understand the consequences? Shingeki is currently ruled by an ego-driven king. He won’t acknowledge peace treaties or international law.”

Pravan exhaled slowly.

“Kritangya… it was a grave mistake. But the arrow has already been released—it cannot be taken back. Still… Kyotin is the true root of this chaos.”

Ignoring Pravan’s warning, Kritangya continued, his voice hardening.

“The Battle of Avatz is escalating. Thirteen of our soldiers were killed last night.”

Byakuya responded instantly.

“Do not reduce funding. Avatz is a critical pivot point. No matter the cost—we must secure it.”

A direct order from a spy to a continental chief planted a deep seed of unease in Kritangya’s mind.

Avatz—the massive water body dividing the two continents—was the largest source of freshwater in the world.

Now, it had become a battlefield.

Griham (Shingeki) and Curtine (Chrono) both fueled proxy nations with weapons, funds, and influence, turning the region into a boiling war zone.

Pravan spoke gravely.

“Monitor Avatz closely. If escalation continues, Chrono will intervene directly.”

Byakuya turned toward Kritangya.

“Krita—abduct one of the elders. We need accurate intelligence on Kyotin and the Senate. Let the new dictator make his move.”

Kritangya used his exclusive ink to draft the order.

The sunlight narrowed.

Voices echoed through the palace corridors.

The glass windows shimmered.

The surrounding sounds compressed—dense, distorted—

Then came terror.

Pravan rose abruptly from his seat.

“I never imagined Shingeki would fall to this level.”

A five-hundred-meter asteroid, engulfed in flame, tore through the sky—hurtling straight toward the Chrono Palace. Its speed and mass were sufficient to erase the palace and everything around it in a blink.

Pravan lunged toward the window, preparing to launch himself—

—but Kritangya pulled him back, fear clear in his eyes.

“My Lord, evacuate immediately! At this distance, it’s impossible to stop—”

The asteroid breached Chrono’s beast walls, eclipsing the sun and bathing the palace in blazing firelight.

Every elite within the palace unleashed their full power, forming a massive dome barrier to reduce the impact.

At that same instant—

The world witnessed the broadest and densest lightning strike in recorded history.

A colossal bolt descended from the sky, engulfing the asteroid completely.

At the slope of the castle—

Byakuya whispered a single word.

“TENGEN.”

Wherever lightning falls, Byakuya appears—a power that made him Chrono’s greatest spy. He could even teleport into Shingeki itself, as long as rain touched the land.

The lightning thickened—no longer a bolt, but a plasma beam.

Byakuya emerged above the flaming mass, at a height rivaling the sun.

In an instant—

The asteroid disintegrated into dust.

The palace and its citizens watched as the flaming calamity was erased, scattered across the sky like ash.

Kritangya rushed to the palace center and spread a delicate veil across the grounds, transforming the falling debris into snow and blossoms.

That day, Chrono witnessed snowfall—in the heart of summer.

Narrator

Tengen.

Those who wield it are called Calamities.

Its effects do not end with death—they persist through the afterlife, across the six realms of samsara, and into the next birth itself.

Its presence had revealed itself to Chrono.

And somewhere far away, the signal became a guiding star—for someone finding his path.

The world of Ekyum, by its very nature, is a calamity upon the universe.
