Daily Walking

I loved my daily walk. Our land out in the back, meets right up to the town park. I could come and go anytime right from my backyard.

I “bought” the house from my parents when they decided to move into an older complex close to town. They wanted more social life now that they were retired. I had a menial job, but got the house pretty cheap, being their only child…

The best thing about my house was the park. Unfortunately, my only talent was typing. I had great jobs, but always indoors.

That day, the office was closed for repairs. We all got the day off! I rarely got to go to the park weekdays a quick morning’s walk at best. I was excited! I decided to go the long path just because I had the time.

Shortly after I started, I saw a man sitting on a bench, a briefcase in his lap, reading something. He seemed angry. I decided to go past quickly, as if I was clocking my time.

Just as I got close, he actually yelled! “Why can’t I find someone to type my letters!” Then he saw me, and apologized profusely! Apparently, his secretary, Clair, was a lousy typer, but did everything else so well he didn’t want to lose her. We got to talking, as if we had known each other for years!

The end was, he hired me just to type (and more money than I was making then!) Two years later we got married and settled into my house! We start each day walking the park (and he is also quite good at making money!)

People always say a walk a day is good for you. I gotta say, they were certainly right for me!
