It wasn’t the ending that hurt, it was believing there wasn’t going to be one

You broke me like a promise
you never intended to keep me—
left me holding words
you’d already unlearned.

I built homes out of maybe,
slept in the warmth of almost,
while you packed your truth
in silence and left it behind.

It wasn’t the ending that hurt,
it was believing there would never be one—
that forever was implied
by the way you stayed just long enough.

You didn’t shatter me loudly.
No—
you loosened your hands,
and let gravity do the rest.
