Kieth blames an opposition goal on a blink.

Road Hockey Rage

Kieth came in his front door. He kicked off his boots toward the dog. The poor thing ran for cover under the couch. He threw his stick across the living room. Finally, he swore loud and long.
“What was that you said?” his mother asked. He threw his wet toque and gloves under the chair in the vestibule, then he sat on it, obviously moping.
“What was that I heard you yelling?” his mother repeated. She stood with her hands on her hips waiting.

“I’m so mad! Just as my side was winning, I had to blink and the ball went into our net and the other side won!”
“We’ve discussed this before, Keith. In every sport, someone wins someone loses. That’s the nature of most sports. This time you lost, next time you may win.”
“I feel like my team never wins. We always come so close, then victory gets snatched away!”
“You really seem to be blinking more than usual,” his mom observed.
“I don’t want to see no eye doctor,” he complained.
“It might help with your road hockey,” his mom coaxed.
“What if I need glasses?”
“I understand they have sports glasses or goggles with prescriptions for many sports,” his mom said.
“I don’t care; I won’t wear them!”
“I think they can be built into your helmet,” his mom said.
“Can I get two for one? Built in goggles for road hockey and a cool pair for everyday?”
“You have to wear them, if we do that!” Keith nodded vigorously.
After he got his goggles, he never missed another goal for the rest of the season. What was even better, all the girls liked his new cool, everyday glasses too. He could see his work much better and started getting better grades.
