A moment when love was new and pure.

Who says there is no time travel?
Remember When’s clutter my mind.
The past revisited in relived moments
Newly defined.

I stared at this left over emblem
An unopened Christmas card
From a relationship torn apart
Dare I open the wound again?

We’d tried so hard, so long, so well,
To keep our love alive.
I felt it stir yet again inside.
The old sealed envelope opened

I had to catch my breath.
The message was softly spoken
On my dry lips and caught breath,
“Meet me before a final goodbye.”

Tears filled my eyes.
My heart opened as I saw
The first moment we met
The instant connection,

Not yet filled with regrets
Or excuses, angry words
Thrown at emotional walls
Those I’d later recall.

Here in this moment of truth
Love lay revealed with its promise
of its ever lasting strength and power
In its shared desire.

I met her there again
Feeling the kiss of her life
Welcome and next to my own,
I’d set her on Love’s throne.

How simply she had fallen
Out of no fault of her own.
I’d simply placed her to high up
No longer within easy reach.

“Goodbye, dear heart,”
I sighed, releasing the past,
Closing the card and my heart,
Now warmed by distant allure.
