Yung Lee: Chapter IV | The Prom

Yung Lee’s journal. Wednesday, July 23rd, 2025, 4:52 a.m.. My first day of junior year starts in a few hours. Criminals are starting to fear me more and more. I’m holding back less, breaking faces more. During last night’s patrol, I saw an old face, well, more like an old mask. He was last seen during my freshman year. The Anti-Lee. We stood 15 feet apart, eyes locked.
“What are you doing?” I demanded from him.
“What’s up?” He replied with a smirk.
         “What… are you doing here?”
“You remember the Cubans? You finished Jack, killed John, yeah. Well, I never worked for Jack, but I worked for John. Jack and John were brothers, sure, but they worked separately. John was smart enough to work for K, Jack wasn’t. He probably fights for his life each day in prison for turning down K. Anyways, John hired me, and K hired John. K is at the top of the food chain, baby. After you killed John, K immediately took me in.
“I didn’t kill John, the cops did, and who the hell is K?”
“Ohhh, oh no… you-you really don’t know anything, do you? He is everything in this city, everything. You haven’t even scratched the surface of the surface of crime in here. You're an ant to Kash.
         “Kash? Jimmy Kash?”
         “So you do know?”
“I’ve only heard that name once. Jack mentioned him.”
“Yeah… Jack didn’t like him. Turned him down. You don’t do that to Kash. It’s only a matter of time before he dies in the slammer… Enough talk, you’re coming with me… the easy way, or the har-”
Before he could finish, I attacked. The fight was a minute long. I stood up limping, and made my way home. I don’t know what’s going to happen now.

Yung Lee’s journal. Thursday, July 31st, 2025, 4:53 p.m.. I have Ms. Tessie as my teacher again this year, she just moved to this school. We haven’t talked since Mark’s funeral. Yesterday I fell asleep in her class. She woke me up and before I walked out the door she told me, “Li… I’m so sorry about Mark. I know you two were best buds.”
I looked down and was quiet for a moment.
         “Thanks.” I said.
I was about to make my way out, and before I could, she said, “Li.. if you’re who I think you are… be safe.”
I just nodded my head and walked out.
I met someone today. Her name is Autumn. She looks like she’d make a good friend. She has light brown hair with bangs and brown eyes. Tan skin and a slim physique. I was more scared talking to her than I was facing Anti-Lee.

Yung Lee’s journal. Friday, August first, 2025, 6:21 a.m.. Last night I visited my high school. Ms. Tessie was in her classroom working late. I knocked on the window. She was surprised and happy to see me, gleaming with joy. I went into the building and walked into her classroom. She gave me some hot tea and we talked. I took off my mask.
         “Tough year?” She asked.
         “Years.” I replied.
She was quiet for a little while.
“What’s — what’s your — what makes you do this?”
         “Well… me, I guess.”
         “Why?”
“Because-well-because… Because when you can do something… you should. I should.”
She was quiet and looked at me with a subtle smile and soft eyes. Like a mother.
“You're the real deal, Li… don’t you give up.”
         “I won’t.”

Yung Lee’s journal. Saturday, October 25th, 2025, 8:32 p.m.. Me and Autumn have started dating. I’ve crossed paths with Anti-Lee a couple of times. He’s brought a partner with him. It is scary, but I’m always able to get away. I wonder when he’ll find me next. Me and Connor have been investigating Jimmy Kash.

Yung Lee’s journal. Sunday, February 22nd, 2026, 11:48 a.m.. Anti-Lee doesn’t have a single partner. More assassins have been hunting me. It is almost unbearable to deal with it all. Some days it seems impossible to win. When everything beats down and hurts me, figuratively and physically speaking, it only takes a glance at Autumn’s beautiful face to cure me.

Yung Lee’s journal. Wednesday, April 15th, 2026, 5:28 p.m.. It is hard to fight Kash’s men, let alone defeat them. Anti-Lee and the rest of them have failed to obtain me. It has been eight months of Anti-Lee and others trying to bring me to him. It’s only a matter of time before his whole army comes after me, not three or four soldiers, and when that day comes, I hope I’m ready. More importantly, I hope Autumn stays safe. As far as I know, Anti-Lee and Kash don’t know my secret identity.

Yung Lee’s journal. Saturday, April 25th, 2026, 1:13 p.m.. A week ago was the prom. I ordered a limousine for me and Autumn. It was nice and romantic. There was a limo driver and a passenger. I didn’t know why, I thought there would only be a driver. They both wore black suits and sunglasses. On the way, the limo came to a stop at a stoplight, then the passenger got out very quickly while the driver kept his head straight, not batting an eye. I wondered what was going on. The man opened my door and walked into our part of the limo. I was very confused and distraught. He went straight to attacking me. I reacted and defended myself from him. A trained murderer… a trained assassin. I didn't know at the moment, but it was Anti-Lee. His partner was another of Kash’s men. We fought hard, we smashed the bottles of sparkling cider and wine glasses on eachother, cutting eachother’s suits and faces. I defeated Anti-Lee by knocking him out, then I started breaking through the wall separating the driver’s part of the car from the rest of the limo. I broke through and began struggling with the driver, trying to stop him and choke him. The limo was wobbling everywhere, scratching other cars and barely staying upright. Autumn was very scared, she was frozen and silent the whole time, she screamed a few times. Then Anti-Lee woke up. I had to fight him while trying to stop the driver at the same time. It was very hard, and he almost won and choked me out, until Autumn knocked him out by smashing the last cider bottle on his head. I choked out the driver and then took the wheel. We drove to the prom, because nothing was going to stop me from having a date with my girl. We decided we’d be safer if we go to school and dance anyways, surrounded by all the people. She was baffled and starstruck. It was very stressful and abrupt, and of course she panicked. It was a bit less surprising for me, obviously. It took a lot of convincing to be able to get her to still go to the dance. She didn’t know it was the Anti-Lee. She didn’t know I’m Yung Lee. It took a little while before she was calm, and we were dancing. Six hitmen and Anti-Lee broke into the school gym. They began attacking people. People started running. I ran away and Autumn screamed at me, thinking I was leaving her. I ran down the hallway and pulled my mask and gloves out of my pocket. I was wearing my prom suit with my Yung Lee mask and gloves on. I began fighting the assassins, taking them down one by one and stopping them from hurting more. They had weapons. Nunchucks, bowstaffs, escrima sticks, daggers, and throwing stars. Anti-Lee stabbed me in the right ribs with a dagger. I fought with one arm as I held the dagger in place. He pierced my back with a throwing star. I pulled a throwing star from my back and threw it only to receive three more on my back. Then another throwing star to my chest, it stopped when it hit the bone. A dagger in my right shoulder, then my left arm. I was fighting armless. Anti-Lee was sick of me, and was fighting the best he ever has, also, he was armed with weapons, far more than usual. Not to mention he had the help of six goons. It was all too much for me to handle. And still, at the end of the fight, all seven of my opponents were down, and it didn't look like they were getting up. Until Anti-Lee stood. I fell to my knees. My vision was blurry and I was bleeding profusely. I saw a girl standing at the exit. Almost everyone had already run. Cops were on their way. People were dead, especially the security guards. Anti-Lee walked up to me and kicked me in the stomach. Blood poured out of my mouth. I was dizzy and my eyes were half-close. He pulled a dagger out of my body as I groaned in pain. I looked closely at the girl at the exit. At that moment I realized it wasn’t a random girl. It was Autumn. He threw the dagger at Autumn. It pierced her and she fell down.
“NO!” I screamed then I groaned and bit down hard. I couldn’t even grieve without feeling pain. I painstakingly took out the remaining daggers and throwing stars in my body and crawled over to her. Her mouth was bleeding and the dagger was in her chest. Her eyes were loose and her eyelids were heavy, closing as she was coughing out blood. She was about to die. I held her in my arms and begged her to stay alive as I was crying and bleeding out. If I got lucky, I would’ve died with her… Ambulance and police arrived. I ran away to hide behind the gym bleachers as I was looking at Autumn. They immediately put her on a stretcher and took her. Police entered after the ambulance, but not before I ran away. I was limping down the hallway while bleeding to my death. Before I could escape, Anti-Lee appeared. He was standing before me.
“This isn’t over.” He said. “I won’t finish until I have Yung Lee.”
“You want Yung Lee?” I asked him. I took off my mask and threw it to the floor. “You can have him.”
I was holding whatever wounds I could with my hands. Pure adrenaline was the only way I was still on my feet. I was about to die. Anti-Lee picked up the mask. Police were approaching us. He turned around and ran. I collapsed to the floor. The police grabbed me... I woke up in a hospital bed a day later. Grandma was by my side, tears fell down her face immediately.
“Where’s Autumn?” It was the first thing I asked.
No words could describe my grandma’s distress. This had happened to her again. But it will never happen again. This is the end. The mask is dead.
