Sisters across the street are suspicious.

Listening to that Still Small Voice

“I don’t trust them!” Tilly said to her sister Milly. They stared out the window with binoculars trained on the house across the street where construction was going on.
“Do you think the Marshalls know?”
“I’m sure not, they’re still on that cruise. I thought it was unwise for them not to be around and I told them so. But their free cruise prize was only for a limited time.” Milly said, as she continued to survey the work from their front window.

“I don’t like this!” the sisters said in one breath.
“Should we call the police?”
“We have no evidence, sister.”
“Alison should be able to help us.” The maiden ladies smiled at the thought of their niece in all but name. Milly called. They chatted briefly, then Milly told her what was happening.
“She’s sending the building inspector to check permits.”
They watched as the inspector pulled up. Then froze as the foreman pulled a gun and shot the man before he made it out of his car!

Tilly called 911 and Milly pulled their dad’s old WW2 machine gun out from under the sofa. They ran outside and snuck up behind the shooter. Milly loudly set the gun to fire. When the man turned at the sounds, she set off a warning burst.
By that time, the police and SWAT were there.
“Drop the gun, Miss Milly,” they shouted. She put it down. The captain of SWAT picked it up.
“What’s all this?” asked the man who had shot the inspector.
“Watch out, he's armed!”

In minutes, the man was in cuffs and police were questioning his crew.
The news that night was full of the free cruise scam where houses were rebuilt and sold out from under their owners.
