Short story about a woman recalling the death of her sister. Formatted similar to a post. |
| Today was the day my sister died. Well, the one year anniversary. I’m posting this to get her story out. The cops don’t believe me, and I know none of you will either. My sister was killed by a monster last year. My sister, Hailey, had just brought her friends over for a Friday night sleepover. It was around eight when they arrived, and they headed up to her room almost immediately. I opted to ignore them, continuing to watch television downstairs instead. After a few minutes of them being up there, I could already hear them over the television. I turned up the volume and waited for my parents to get home. After about an hour had passed, I could hear my parents car enter the driveway. I turned off the television and headed to open the door for them. After they walked in, my mother immediately asked a question. “I’m sorry dinner is so late. Where’s your sister and her friends?” “Upstairs.” “They know they aren’t supposed to be up there alone.” My mom storms up the steps to confront my sister, while I help my father carry groceries inside. I can hear her lecturing Hailey upstairs. Dad and I unpack the groceries quietly. There's been no tension between us, we’re just not big talkers. My mom finally came back downstairs, with the girls trailing behind her. My parents had gotten Chinese takeout for everyone while they were out. There was a tense silence as we all sat down together, as my sister had been pretty pissed when my mom went up to scold them. My father tried to break the silence by making small talk. “So.. How was your guys’ day?” “I’m not in the mood, dad.” Hailey replies, cutting him off. The silence stretches on as we all eat our food. Dad looks solemn and mom’s eyebrow is twitching. After we all finished eating, Hailey and her friends went to the living room to watch movies. Mom and dad walked upstairs, presumably to talk and then go to bed. I go to sit on the couch, while Hailey and her friends take up the mattresses we had laid on the floor. They picked some horror movie I can’t remember the name of, and I mostly played on my phone. After the movie finished, it was around one in the morning. They put on some television show and ended up falling asleep to it. I was actually pretty invested in it, so I kept watching. Around this point, I began to feel pretty tired, so I curled up into the blanket I had. Everything was pretty normal until I heard a window opening. I froze in place, if a thief was here, it was a good idea to lay low. If they came just to steal, they probably wouldn’t hurt anyone sleeping. I could hear them creeping closer, and some kind of material clacking against itself. I curled into the blankets even more. I probably looked like a pile of blankets at that point. As they kept walking, I noticed the footsteps were coming closer to the living room. I heard them enter the room, and then the rustling of pockets. I peeked out of my hiding hole and saw that thing. It was standing near the doorway, holding something in its right hand. All I could see was their shadow, a tall lanky shadow with wings. I silently closed the small hole I had made to see through. I heard a few more footsteps, then the sound of the thing’s knees hitting the floor. Looking back, I wonder how I managed to stay silent while I heard the sounds of flesh ripping. This went on for an hour. I could hear it moving from girl to girl. The sound of flesh being cut, then the quiet scraping, and finally the clacking. After it had finished, it left through the same window it came. I peeked through the blankets after a few minutes of it being gone. I couldn’t see much from my angle, but there were small splashes of blood on the walls. I sat up and looked down at the bodies of my sister and her friends. I ran to the bathroom, grabbed my phone out of my pocket, and called the police. Then, I finally allowed myself to cry as loud as I wanted. After the cops arrived, I told them the story outside. They woke up my parents, and brought them out, too. We had to sit in a police car so they could move us away from the scene. The car was quiet, the only noises being the sobs of me and my family. We stayed in a different place for a few days until everything was cleaned up. We had a funeral after they allowed us to bury Hailey. I didn’t read anything after her death. Not the autopsy, or the police report, and I never looked at her obituary again. Until today. I finally read her autopsy and the police report. I also read her obituary again, and let myself grieve. The official articles explained what I had heard. My sister and her friends were found without teeth, and were all missing a singular bone. I’m writing this because I want to take revenge on the thing that killed my sister. I know this creature has murdered others, I read autopsies with the exact same missing teeth and bone. I’m posting this to see if anyone has information on whatever this creature is. |
