Had to write a poem from the POV of an inanimate object; light & easy, nothing heavy

Sometimes she neglects me
for her notebook
an actual notebook
with paper
where she can grab her favorite pen
and let her words cascade
over smooth parchment;
She loves a good gel pen
that lets her poetry flow;
Apparently tapping is an effort,
wreaks havoc on her ability to concentrate—
but she could use my voice feature
couldn’t she?
She could whisper her words,
shout her story;
She could talk to me
I mean, I’d get it all down for her
so I’m not sure what the problem is…

I’ve heard her talk about intimacy,
about connection
how the tactile nature
of pen and paper
enhance the flow of her thoughts
and make the storytelling more profound
more visceral
more everything…so she says
but I’ll beat out that old notebook yet
She can’t take it everywhere,
it’s not portable like I am;
She doesn’t like to admit it
but I’m the lover she can’t go without
I’m always in her pocket
in her hand, on her mind
I’m always within reach
and when that old notebook is filled with
scribbles and doodles and half-verses
and there’s no more paper to write on
I’ll still be here
with my infinite digital pages
and my little keyboard
waiting for her words,
waiting for her poetry,
waiting for her
