| The First Time Something Mattered I don’t think I knew it at the time. It didn’t feel like anything big was happening. Just one of those days that looked like every other day, same place, same air, that kind of quiet around it. And then something shifted. Not in a way anyone else would notice, just enough that I felt it and didn’t really have a name for it yet. I remember wanting to stay there a little longer. Not because I understood it, more like I didn’t want it to pass the way everything else usually did. Before that, things came and went. You noticed them for a second, and then they were gone. This didn’t do that. It stayed. I kept going back to it without meaning to, thinking about it when I wasn’t supposed to be thinking about anything at all. That part felt new, or maybe I just hadn’t paid attention to it before. That was the part that felt like it mattered. Not in some big way, just because it didn’t leave when everything else did. And I think that’s when I started to notice things a little differently. Not all at once, just enough to tell the difference between something passing by and something that stays. Some of it still lingers. Not in a loud way. Just enough to remind me it’s there. And sometimes, without really thinking about it, I find myself going back to it more than I probably realize. Maybe that’s always been part of how I write.Or atleast I think so, anyw |
