A print on my face that stayed in my heart

Sticky Prints

The new refrigerator's stainless door
Was decorated with
Finger prints and hand prints.

Grandma's Homemade
Strawberry Jam
Had become an art medium.

Little hands with
Ten tiny fingers
Enjoyed the chance
To decorate the kitchen.

I enlisted the aid
of the 3-year-old artist
To clean up.

Ants, had found
The sweet trail
She left behind.

When we finished
A thorough cleanup
I explained the advantages
Of other mediums.

That last longer
And require
Much less cleanup.

A desk drawer
Yielded a coloring book
And a box of crayons.

I was rewarded
With a sticky kiss
That left a print
For over fifty years.
