Good Again

“That’s enough of that!”

The hollering boys stopped yelling at each other, and looked toward the door. There was Dad. Both boys started yelling to him now, both trying to get him on their side before the other one did.

Dad tried to calm it down, but both boys were yelling, not listening at all. So, he was not getting through, at all.

Suddenly a voice, not even yelling, said “Stop.” Both boys stopped yelling immediately and sat there totally quiet. Even Dad shut up. Of course it was Mom. “Gerald, tell me what’s happening,” she said.

In a very quiet, calm voice, Gerald said, “Ron took my ball and can’t remember where he left it. I need it to take to the park.”

“Ron?” Mom said.

In a very quiet voice too, Ron said, “I can’t remember where I set it down. I can help Gerald look for it. It’s here somewhere.

Mom said “Go.” And the boys practically flew out of the room, still as quiet as mice.

Dad looked at Mom, “How did you do that?”

“I just asked what the problem was, and sent them to fix it.” she said.

“Come on!” Dad said, “You never got that much attention before. That was awesome! There must be more to it than you butting in on the problem…

“Maybe they just mind me…”

“Pffff! I live here! I know that never happened before. What did you do?”

“Fine. I read something. It said, get the kids to try to be the best. So, whoever is the best at whatever you are having a problem with, gets the prize.”

“And what is the prize?”

“Ah… today it’s picking where to go for ice cream with Dad…”

“I love it!!!” said Dad. And life was good again.
