Writer's Cramp entry. Returning from 3 month sabatical, the Moore family didn't expect. |
| "I will be so glad to get home," said John. "Yes," said Edith, "the conference was enlightening, but three months away was a bit much." "I just wish that they weren't so receptive to the nuclear fusion power cell. They really thought they could adapt it to anything." As they got out of the taxi from the airport, John fished through his pockets for the house keys. Both he and Edith were surprised when they got to the porch and the storm door was wide open. "What in the world?" asked Edith. John reached for the screen door. It burst open and the two of them were almost run over by a preteen coming out. "I'll be at the arcade, Mom," he said. He didn't seem to notice the Moores. He just jumped on his skateboard and took off down the street. "John dear, that child, did not look completely human," said Edith. "What happened while we were on Pluto?" "Hello, can I help you?" asked Ronnie. He was standing inside, his pointed nose sniffing questionably. His pointed ears were relaxed and his large green eyes seemed friendly. He just looked more wolf than human. "This is our house," stammered John. "Ah," said Ronnie. "This has happened a couple of times with placement. Won't you come in?" "Ron is there something wrong?" asked Martha coming in from the kitchen. She had her pup, Lily, in her arms, feeding her a bottle. "Seems we have displaced these nice people." "Oh bother. I wish there weren't so many bugs with placement. I'll go call Janet." Ron picked up a pipe and lit it as he sat in the living room with the Moores. "You see, a comet destroyed our planet three months ago. We came to Jupiter here and were met with open arms. The placement system was already in place for such an emergency and put us in your home here. There were 104 families on our ship, and for security we were placed in different colonies. " "I left Janet a message. They are always so busy. Ron where are your manners? I am Martha Lupus and this is Ronald. Our pup here is Lily and our male youngin is at the arcade. His name is Joe." Edith was starting to come around, but John was still full of questions. "I am Edith and this is my husband, John Moore." "What are we going to do?" asked John. "Most of your house is still in tact," said Ron. "We have been staying mostly in the basement. A shed was built for your things that were down there. We only come to the rest of the house when we need things, like food." "So we could easily cohabitat here," said Edith. "I'm sure we can." "Of course," said Martha,"would you like to hold Lily? I could use some help as I cook dinner. There should be plenty for all." Edith got up cautiously and gently took the pup in her arms. "We haven't been blessed with children. You are so lucky." John got up and shook Ron's paw. "I think we are the lucky ones to have such a nice family here." "I'm sure we will all make a fine pack together," said Ron. words 542 |
