Poem inspired by an oak tree where I used to live and partially the passing of my Dad. |
| My dear Mighty Oak Tree, how tall you stand today! How does one grow so tall and proud as you? Your leaves may sway, but your roots do not. How strong one must be, sadly today I am not. I was looking down at the ground in search of some four leaf clover luck. It was your branches reaching out to caress me with your gentle shade that I needed today. Everyday really, but especially today. As I look up at your giant size today, it amazes me how an acorn so small can grow up so big. My, my the sights you have seen! Tiny feet prance beneath as well as bigger feet at a slower, yet steady pace. The heartbeats of living creatures big and small gather round. A few heatbreaks buried around. Storms come and threaten to break you down to size, only to pass and watch you grow in size. How wise you are. How tall you are How strong you are. What an awe you are to me today. Years have passed as we've watched each other grow. What your secret is for being such a mighty oak tree? "Look up further past me dear child, the sky is your limit. Soak up that sunshine and wash those tears away with the rain." |
