"Shoes That Did Not Fit"


My shoes were on the wrong feet
All during this long long time
I thought my shoes were on the wrong feet

Nothing fit
Nothing seemed right
My steps were out of sync
My life was out of kilter
My gait felt no music

She said wear them anyway
They look good on you
Now smile like you mean it

I didn't mean it
Smiling looked like crying
i did cry
I hurt
My feet hurt
My smile hurt

Shoes pinched
Life pinched
Until I walked away

Actually I ran away
Far away
Barefoot and grounded

The music played
My dance came back
I felt the melody in my feet
Healed and happy

It was never about the shoes
It was her
And now she is gone
I have my rightful gait
And a song in my step
