A quiet reflection on forgiveness, grief, and finally laying anger down. |
| ππππ ππΆπ΄π΅ππ²πΏ Forgiveness came quietly. Not like thunder. Not like the dramatic endings people talk about where everything suddenly makes sense. It came while washing a glass in the kitchen, hands under warm water, realizing I had not thought about your betrayal for almost seven whole minutes. Seven minutes. After years of carrying it like something heavy in my chest I had stopped questioning years ago. Anger had weight to it. That is what nobody tells you. It sits in the body like wet clothing. It follows you upstairs. Sleeps beside you. Makes every silence feel like another argument waiting to happen. And I was tired. God, I was tired. Tired of replaying old conversations like they might suddenly end differently. Tired of replaying memories until they hurt me more than they hurt you. Tired of feeding a fire that never once asked if I was cold. So I let it go. Not because you deserved peace. Not because what happened stopped hurting. Not because I became noble overnight. I let it go because for the first time anger felt heavier than grief. And forgiveness, unexpectedly, felt almost like putting down luggage after carrying it so long you forget what lighter feels like. I still remember everything. That is the strange part. Forgiveness is not forgetting. It is remembering without reopening the wound. Your name no longer burns in my mouth. It passes through me now without staying. And maybe that is healing: not the absence of scars, but the moment they stop demanding your entire life revolve around them. Tonight the world feels lighter. Not perfect. Not repaired. Just lighter. As if somewhere inside me a locked door finally gave way, and all the anger I guarded for years walked out into the dark without asking permission to return. always arrived like a visitor already checking the clock. Even in the middle of laughter, something inside me was folding the moment away before it had even finished happening. A beautiful song that somehow sounds like goodbye from the very first note. I have held warm hands while already feeling the cold absence of them. Watched sunsets like apologies written across the sky. Loved people with the strange instinct of someone packing a suitcase during the embrace. Maybe that is the cruelest part, not losing happiness, but hearing the echo of loss inside it while it still lives. So every good thing becomes fragile. Every smile carries an expiration date. And joy itself feels temporary from the moment it begins. |
