The Hair Day

My hair was too short. This happens when I go to a hairdresser, but if I try cutting it myself, well, let’s leave that… My hair is naturally curly. That sounds so great to people, but only those who don’t have it.

I forgot I had to go to Parent Teacher’s Day. Now I had to show up, with the parents of Trill’s classmates, and look like my hair blew up!

I tried fluffing it a bit, it was obviously too short. That happens when the hairdresser wets the hair down. It looks a certain length, but as the curls dry, they pop up getting shorter by the second! They get so tight they look like a hat! I thought about a hat too, but it’s practically still summer out, and, I really don’t like hats… I don’t like something on my head, and unconsciously push it around. Trill herself yells at me about it, and she’s only six…

As I hammered away at the curls trying to make myself look OK, instead of someone with a bird’s nest on top of her head… Trill came in.

“Oh Mom,” she said, just the way I say “Oh Trillian” when I catch her doing something completely wrong. “Let me fix it.” And she took the brush and comb right out of my hands!

“You can’t use a brush that dry! It just makes it fluff more!”
This to me who had this hair all my life from Trill, who just turned six… I couldn’t help laughing.

She fixed it enough, and we had a lovely time at school. I have no idea what other people thought about my hair, I had finally, really, given in. Trill loves my hair, and I love Trill. What more could I ask for.
