Beneath The Mask

Another late night poem.

Behind the mask.
Behind the happy mask, somebody is breaking.
Behind the calm mask, somebody's anger boils inside.
Behind the funny mask, somebody believes they are not enough.
Behind the prettiest mask, someone is rejecting all affection, believing themselves unworthy.

But when that mask splits.
When the masks split, the wild mix of pent up emotion come pouring out.
Pouring out with the brutal, honest truth hiding beneath.

Because these masks mimic society.
Society expects one to be perfect.
Masks put up by everyone.
Masks that hide the true, bright chaos of human nature.

Beneath the mask, lies the truth.
Beneath the mask, lies the inner soul.
