A moving piece about finding inner strength, surviving life's hardships, and healing

When the Storm Finally Tires
I spent so long beneath dark skies,
counting losses, swallowing goodbyes.
Carrying burdens that weren’t mine,
trying to heal wounds hidden by time.
I watched doors close without a sound,
felt promises crumble into the ground.
Held on through nights that seemed endless and cold,
with nothing but faith and a heart growing old.
Yet somehow the dawn kept finding me,
through broken branches and weary seas.
A whisper of hope, a flicker of light,
reminding my soul I could survive the night.
The storm never asked if I was prepared,
it simply arrived and stripped everything bare.
But storms have limits, though they seem strong—
even the longest ones can’t rage forever long.
So here I stand with my scars in view,
not because life was gentle or true,
but because I refused to surrender my flame
when the darkness kept calling my name.
And one day I’ll look back and clearly see
the woman the hardship was shaping in me.
Not shattered. Not defeated. Not torn apart.
Just stronger bones,
wiser eyes,
and a heart that learned
how to keep beating
through it all. ❤️
