My First owl

My First Owl
Looking out the window deciding what I want to wear. I usually got it right since I could see what the sky was doing, and the sun, and I have a thermometer outside my window on the second floor.
As I looked and decided, I glanced around the backyard, noticing something by the shed. Something moving. We got rabbits on occasion, usually just birds and occasionally a skunk, but this didn’t fit any of those sizes. I was just getting ready to go downstairs to look, when it looked up toward me. An owl!
I had never seen an owl this close! Granted I was upstairs, not so close, but I couldn’t remember ever seeing one in our yard! An owl!
I took a quick picture, but I was high enough not to be able to get a good one, so downstairs I went in my pajamas, determined to get picture of it.
When I got to the door, I peeked out hoping it was still there. There it was, standing next to a box of grapes that had met their moment. Mom had put it outside so nobody would try eating one. As if…
However, the owl did not seem to think they were overripe. It was eating them as if it was a birthday cake! Every bite seemed to make him (or her?) happier!
I slowly opened the door hoping to get a better picture. The owl was so engaged with the overripe mushy grapes that he didn’t even notice me. Unfortunately, he did notice the click of the camera, and bolted! I got my picture, and another of the owl flying away so crazily that I had to wonder if it was drunk!
I still remember that moment, fifty-three years ago. And I still love Owls.
