Another short poem, this time about my childhood. |
| Looking in the distance. Looking in the distance, I see a child with weathered eyes. Looking in the distance, I see discomfort and confusion. Looking in the distance, I see a child who lives in constant confusion and fear. Looking in the distance, I see the shadows of longing, longing for a better home. Looking in the distance, I see a man who chose to walk away from his family. Looking in the distance, I see a woman who can't keep her head straight. Looking in the distance, I see three deeply traumatised children, leaning on one another for support through their loneliest night, through their roughest day. Looking in the distance, I see myself. I see myself throughout my life, figuring out what I want. Looking in the distance, I see the stages of processing. I see the stages of healing. Looking in the distance, I finally understand that healing is not a pretty, linear process. Looking in the distance, I finally understand that my healing is only that of millions of others. Everyone heals different. Looking in the distance. |
