The Hat

"I'm tired of waiting," said Ted.

“No please. She’s coming; she sounded like she thought it was exciting!”

“OK, a few more minutes…

“You and Andrea never hit it off well did you.”

“Are you saying I don’t like Andrea?”

“No! I just mean you two don’t seem to jive much…”

“Well, we just ‘jive’ about different things. Like you and Terry Gonzel.”

“What about me and Terry?”

“You have nothing in common, right?”

“What do you mean?”

“You’re an outside person; Terry rarely goes outside. You’re always losing stuff.”

“I am not!”

“OK, where’s your hat…”

“It was windy!”

“It must be windy a lot…”

“Funny. What do you think Andrea is excited about?”

“Oh, there she is we can find out together!”

“You don’t know?”

“No, she just said she found something and she’d be right over.”

“Oh, I’m so glad you both are here!” said Andrea.

“What’s this all about?” Ted asked.

“I found something!”

“And you thought it would be exciting to us?”

“Well… to you, Ted.” Andrea pulled his hat out of her coat.

“Where did you get this???”

“I found it on Dallin Street, in my front yard!”

“Oh gosh, it was so windy! Thank you!” Ted said.

“How did you know it was his?” Jan asked.

“I saw it on him the other day.” They all laughed.

Jan and Andrea decided to go get some ice cream. Ted didn’t go, but he never forgot that Andrea found his hat. He knew it got lost when he was checking out where Andrea lived. He had a horrendous crush on Andrea…

Two years later they finally went on their first date. Six years after that they got married.

That hat still hangs in their closet. Some things are just meant to be.
