The Interview

Rated: E · Fiction · Transportation · #2361094

David is going to be late! Or is he?

"Oh, come on, why today? Why not yesterday or tomorrow? Why did my car tire have to get stolen the day of my job interview? Why only one tire?" David sat down on the pavement and sighed. He would never make it to the interview in time on foot. Maybe this was a sign to go home to the farm and give up on this silly dream of becoming a policeman. David picked himself up, walked inside his house, and fell on his couch.

David said to his dog, Rufus. “I guess I have to call them and say I can’t go.” David reached for his phone but stopped suddenly. “My bike! I can ride my bike!” He barely took the time to grab his jacket before racing off on his bike. I can make it, David thought. Maybe I can be a policeman after all! David’s heart pounded not just because he was biking as fast as he could, but because his hope was brought back to life.

After an hour of biking David arrived. He leaned his bike against a pole and hesitantly stepped inside the building. He sat down and fiddled with his watch.

“David," Someone called. David turned to see a woman with a clipboard looking at him. “Officer Hamilton is ready to see you. Just follow the blue line.”

David looked around and saw a blue strip painted on the floor. At the end of the line sat a hearty officer, eating a donut.

“Officer Hamilton?”David held out his resume but the officer waved it away

. “You’re hired.”

David was surprised. It was that easy?

“We’ve been needing a fall guy.” Hamilton grinned. “You’ll do perfectly.”

David was so excited, he almost jumped for joy. His dreams were finally coming true.
