Ode to our You

In the hush of the Smoky Mountains embrace,
where the valley sings and the eagle traces,
You were the sunshine, my garden’s grace,
Until that solemn October’s fateful chase.

I carried your essence through sorrow’s gate,
The peaks where your hearts emanate,
I scattered your memory, a silken weight,
where passions and dreams articulate.

Our sons remember the beach’s lore,
eclipsed by the love that we once wore.
On a grassy knoll, our vows we swore,
Now, I tread alone on life’s shore.

The first glance, the fall, lovers to ignite,
A journey began in the thrill of the night.
Now I wander a lone satellite,
Yearning for your celestial light.

On the sand, our dance, a tender script,
Now, only my footprints are visible as I drift.
Beside me in snow, your shadow’s gift,
An angel’s trail, heaven’s uplift.

Oh, to join you beyond the dome,
where whispers of “take me along roam.
I miss you in the quiet of my home.
Do you hear my heart’s monotone?

Are you here, my spirit’s guide?
n loneliness, where I confide.
Brush away these tears I’ve cried.
Kiss my dreams, where you reside.

In free verse, I pen this ode:
A heart’s outpour, a love bestowed.
In every word, my soul’s abode,
For you, my love, my eternal road.

Destiny

heaving waves hit the sand
churning thoughts, despair

wave upon wave lashes
pain predominant, can't let go

words less spoken,
tormenting his soul

the one he loves
forever holds

she is willing
so he may rest

the sun rises? and sets?
the future uncertain

shadows coalesce the
sea pummels the shore

waves forcing, insanity home
one by one diminishing so

Our Lord heard his prayers
come thither I shall heal

a host of angels
descends take his hand

pain washed away,
in the calm seas

on gossamer wings
he rises to be with him

Kaleidoscope

Kaleidoscope gaze,
Lift your eyes to the maze,
Where gossamer-winged dancers play.

Aloft in the breeze,
With such delicate ease,
They waltz in the wind's ballet.

Flourishing kin,
In the air, thin and thin,
Amongst blooms, they artfully sway.

Butterflies roam,
In their chromatic dome,
A myriad of hues in the array.

Slight and copious,
In patterns so curious,
They draft the wind's essay.

Elusive spirits, they soar,
Through the sky's open door,
From spring's dawn to autumn's decay.

Flitting ever so light,
'til the twilight's first sight,
When the day's colors fade to gray.

When There is Room in Heaven

We will dance for eternity.
Azure blue skies embraced
you on your journey home
The red clay of your birth
receives you back home.
Aspen leaves scuttle down
breadth. Of the mountains
Lush pine trees swayed
and swoon; we shall miss you.
The red clay of your forbears
accepts your ashes
The dense pine trees
bowed in homage
in homage to you
The rain fell, intermingling
with the tears on my face
The seasons changed I
returned every year
They are away forever.
I saw the rainbow and knew
it was my time to come home.
My love, soon we will dance
the night away forever

Snow Shenanigans

White crystals dancing
a multi-faceted point
sunrays reflecting
rainbows materialize
children frolicking
snow angels adorn
snow forts put up
snowballs thrown
snowsuits pulled off
dripping wet
red-faced kids
sit by the fireplace
while sipping mugs
of hot chocolate
and fixing for smores
sweet dreams little ones
tomorrow is another time.

Rendezvous with Dolphins

White crystalline flakes filtering down
Rainbows dost appeared, sol sank into the sea
When twilight arrived, we'd secretly meet
Innocent flirting was the norm
Satisfying our carnal nature in writing.
Weeks flew by. then months
Nighttime, trysts sparked our affair.
Rendezvous at twilight under a full moon
A private beach is known only to bot
Scintillating conversation and some wine.
We swam in the sea, in an agitated state
A pod of dolphins undulated nearby
The squeals of dolphins went unheard
We returned to shore at sunrise
The sea spray wakening me
A dream

November Rose

The first snow arrived
a tiny bud was born
in the early morning sunlight
snow melting, birds singing
a sign from God of hope and
love the tiny bud bloomed
color is so unique and a
blessing for it captured the
eyes of passersby in our lane
I wept with joy and gratitude
for God's handiwork in nature
God gave the breath of life to
the November Rose.

Yon Mountain

A land, hence, he came.
Yon mountains sing.
home Tarheel land
red clay soil,
lush green pine,
sculpted valleys,
azure, blue skies,
sparking clear streams
twinkling stars above
within arm's length
oh, how I miss them.
Someday, I shall return.
To my adoptive home

Seasonal Delights

The leaves are changing colors fast.
They painted the landscape red and gold.
They dance and swirl in the autumn wind.
They create a sight to behold.
The pumpkins are ripe and ready.
They smile with their carved faces.
They light up the night with their candles.
They add charm to the cozy places.
The apples are juicy and sweet.
They fill the air with their fragrance.
They make delicious pies and cider.
They offer a taste of abundance.
The autumn is a time of wonder.
A season of harvest and celebration.
Fall invites us to enjoy its gifts.
Expressing our gratitude and appreciation.

Phenomenon of nature

thunderous clap
BOOM!
lightning strikes
dazzling light show
lights go out
sanity slipping
vistas from the window
nature's artwork
splattering raindrops
florae dancing in the wind
wildlife seek refuge
the rain softens.
lull in the violent tempest.
the clouds disperse
darkening clouds
coalescing again
peeping ceases
the rains descend

Life of a Butterfly

Butterfly flits, an array of hues as elegant as birds' flight.
They are separate entities in the sky with
Rare, exquisite details.
They soar on sun rays.
I was settling down at twilight.
Natural environs they seek.
The moon phases vary.
Seasons change.
Migrate to southern climates.
I usually noticed in open fields or deep, virgin woods.
The butterfly's genteel grace is a sight.
Lures our souls away.
Whispering as a new day dawns.
Hello, my friend, fly with me.
The visceral winds carry us.
Our delicate wings spread.
We fly pole to pole and to and fro.
Let's fly away together.

God's Creation

Spring is late arriving.
bitter cold airstream
once shrouds the land
The last snow melts.
peek out of the dark soil
slender green stems
daffodils and irises bud
robins, cardinals, and blue jays
present a colorful display.
azure, blue skies
puffy clouds scudding
warm wastrel winds blow

First Sounds of Spring

My love, that Spring you came
home to his loved ones.
We kept the curtains open
so he could watch nature's gifts.
A pair of robins raised a brood
the male stood guard over young
A pair of doves nested in a huge
elm tree cooing till dusk to twilight.
An albino squirrel ran along fences,
and up and down trees.
A wide variety of butterflies were
attracted to the butterfly bushes.
We planted raspberry bushes, and all
kinds of birds came that summer.
He was happy when we placed his chair facing the big
picture window.
The kids next door made cards
for him bringing sweets.
Cohen the youngest boy said
to me Ian I hug him and pray.
He approached him carefully
I love you, then he wept.
When dusk fell we watched the
fireflies danca e on a hot summer eve.
He laughed and cried as the
spring melted into summer.
Early October arrived the
gnarled weeping willow died.
So did my beloved.

October

Fall is windy and cold
colorful leaves swirling
tiny hard snowflakes
biting the skin
WHOA
It is only early October

Deserts Secret

Deserts are vast barren lands.
Where the sun scorches.
the wind blows sand.
Deserts aren't just lifeless and dry.
They have beautiful secrets.
that can make you sigh.
Cacti, big and small of all
kinds and creatures of the night.
Deserts are more than just sand, dust
landscapes of contrast and splendor.
They have oases and mirages.
Deserts are a place of wonder
and delight for all ages.
Poets and artists find their muse
amongst all this splendor

Bonding through Nature

Our sons and I miss
you so very much.
My darling, you were the
roots that held us together.
Our beloved sons are the
stems continuing the line.
I am the flowers and leaves
that furnish wisdom.
Now God lives in our hearts
with his infinite love
We carry God's values through
our day-to-day lives.
Your footsteps walk beside me,
holding our family together.

The Farmer's Almanac

If you see a long fat caterpillar
in winter or the first Robin in spring

Blustery cold winds, snowstorms
snow plows droning til morn to dusk

Wading through piles of drifting
snow thermal clothing required

Children's laughter; making
snow angels and snowball fights.

Firewood burning smoke rising
rocking chairs creaking and snoring

Rodents and other indigenous
animals seeking warmth

"Oh my, the seasons can
be quite challenging.

The almanac says, you can
learn all about common sense.

Annual calendars containing dates
and statistics, astronomical, and more

I love all the seasons, winter,
spring, summer, and fall.

Oh! how I love Wisconsin
my home away from home.

A Writers Art

The days unravel, like heaven's downy snow,
My words, they dance, a crystalline tableau.
Etching life's vast canvas with grace so rare,
Within my heart, a quiet, somber prayer.
Memories, once vivid, now shades of ink,
Word art, my haven, where thoughts and colors sync.

Nature, my muse, waltzes in my reverie,
Seasons' strokes on my soul, a timeless gallery.
Death's silhouette, a whisper on parchment pale,
Seeping into my craft, a transient tale.
Yet writing—oh, writing! It surges, a timeless stream,
An eloquent river of dreams, a writer's supreme.

In autumn's chapter, I savor this divine embrace,
A gift, an eternal dialogue, beyond time's trace.
I inscribe my spirit, as days in quietude retreat,
Snow blankets the earth, words blossom, bittersweet.
Art breathes its secrets, a silent windborne ode,
In this waltz of creation, my life's story is told
.

Wind, Sand, and Stars

We snuggled under the cozy quilt.
And whispered secrets in the dark.
We watched the stars twinkle and tilt.
And listened to the crickets' spark.

The moon was shining bright and clear.
But we only had eyes for each other.
We felt the love that brought us near.
Wind, quilt, stars, sand and lovers.

Thunderstorms

It's winter, but it's thundering outside.
The snow has melted into a muddy tide.
We had three days of spring, a fleeting gift.
Kids on their bikes, runners in their drift.

But now the rain is pouring like a flood.
The wind is howling, snapping every bud.
A twister whines, a curse upon the land.
The silence is a knife, too sharp to stand.

I go to the window and think twice.
Do I stay inside or pay the price?
I'm not scared anymore, I've seen it all.
Fear is not an option, I won't fall.

I sit and write, my words are my escape.
They fly across the page, they take their shape.
They tell the story of a stormy night.
They give me hope, they make me feel alright.

Sojourn in the Mountains

On my journey to the mountains,
I traveled by bus, seeking adventure.
I hadn't slept a wink,
Excitement coursing through my veins.

The mountains loomed in the distance,
Their majestic peaks touch the sky.
I gazed out the window, mesmerized.
By the beauty of God's creation.

The sun rose in a brilliant display,
Painting the sky in hues of red and gold.
Fluffy white clouds floated lazily,
Casting shadows on the rugged terrain.

The air was crisp and fresh,
Filling my lungs with the fragrance of pine.
I stood in awe of the towering trees,
Their branches swayed in harmony with the wind.

As I arrived at my destination,
I felt a sense of peace and contentment.
The mountains inspired me,
To share my thoughts and feelings through words.

In that moment, I knew
That the mountains held a special place in my heart.
And I vowed to return,
To bask in their beauty and find my muse once more.

Snow Robin

Spring whispers early, a murmur through the thaw,
Velvet green, the grass in rebirth's gentle claw,
Budding flora, swaying trees in vernal awe,
"Snow robin," they beckon, "to us, you are law."

Robins, red-breasted, cock heads in quaint decree,
Heralds of the melt, in their gaze, life's marquee,
Trees Twitter, a chorus for the thawing spree,
Spring snow retreats, revealing nature's jubilee.

New life stirs, a robin's breast in crimson bloom,
First sight of spring, when robins dispel the gloom,
Free verse of life, the first brood in the woven room,
Males stand guard, near nests where the future's hopes loom.

Twigs, lint, and string, in mud-caked nests entwine,
A robin's craft, a cradle by design divine,
Footprints in what was snow, now a verdant sign,
Spring's ritual dance, in every step, aligns.

Rhapsody

Amid a world that whirls,
A sphere in an endless dance around the sun,
We find ourselves small and seemingly frail,
Witness to the celestial might of solar flares,
And the earthly tumult of wars and despair.

Yet within this fragile frame beats a heart,
Yearning for the simple joys of life’s art:
To pen tales untold, to cradle a kitten,
To love and be loved, never to be smitten
By the cold hand of fear that tightens its grip.

For even as the skies rage with storms unseen,
Casting auroras wide, a spectral sheen,
We stand resilient, our spirit unshaken,
Amidst warnings that leave the airwaves taken,
And power grids that bow to the sun’s fierce might.

Remember the storm of two thousand five,
a reminder of nature’s power, alive.
Yet here we are, survivors of time,
with dreams still burning, bright and sublime,
A testament to the enduring human fight.

At sixty-five, the road ahead beckons,
With pages unwritten and love that reckons.
For what is age but a number, a state,
When the soul still dreams, it’s never too late,
To make a mark, to live, to ignite.

So let us not dwell on fears of the morrow
Nor the potential of nuclear sorrow.
Instead, let’s embrace each moment we’re given,
For in this round ball, this life we’ve been livin’,
Lies the power to create, inspire, and write.

And though the world may seem dark and vast,
Remember, it’s love and dreams that last.
So take the step, let your story unfold,
In the Book of Life, let your tale be told,
For in the heart of fear lies the courage to fight.

Realm of Wonder

In the realm of sorrow, where pain is born
A stormy sky obscures the hopeful rays.
Shadows of despair darken the weary days.
In this gloomy realm, your courage is torn.

Oh, sweet reverie, sing me a haunting harmony.
In the twilight's embrace, let me sail on the stream.
Through the cascading stars, a floating lullaby.
In the poetry of dreams, where imagination gleams.

In the realm of wonder, where magic is born
A rainbow bridge connects the worlds apart.
Sparks of inspiration ignite the creative heart.
In this dazzling realm, your possibilities soar.

**In the realm of sorrow, where tears are shed
A broken heart bleeds with every beat.
Loneliness and regret are your only friends.
In this hopeless realm, your spirit is dead.

Oh, sweet reverie, take me away from this misery.
In the moonlight's kiss, let me fly on the breeze.
Through the whispering clouds, a soothing melody.
In the poetry of dreams, where anything is possible.

In the realm of wonder, where joy is born
A golden sun brightens the endless sky.
Colors and shapes dazzle the curious eye.
In this splendid realm, your soul is reborn.

The Rain has Spoken

A somber melody in the air,
The weight of absence, a silent burden I bear.
Light rain taps gently on the windowpane,
Each drop a tear, a memory’s refrain.

I lie down to sleep, seeking solace in dreams,
Where their laughter echoes, and love redeems.
Yet how can I forget the contours of their face,
The warmth of shared moments, time cannot erase.

I yearn to laugh, to defy sorrow’s grip,
To dance on the edge, where joy and grief slip.
And when tears fall, unbidden and free,
I embrace the ache, for it binds them to me.

In the quiet hours, I sit and mourn,
Lighting candles, tracing memories worn.
Their stories etched deep, woven into my soul,
A labyrinth of emotions, where healing takes its toll.

Remembering becomes my sacred task,
Their essence alive in every breath I ask.
I choose to smile, a gentle rebellion,
For they live on in me, defying oblivion.

With gratitude, I give thanks for their grace,
The love we shared, the moments we embrace.
And as I step outside, the rain kisses my skin,
I go for a walk, their presence within.

Nightmarish Storm

Thunderstorms rage, their fury unbridled,
Rain cascades, a torrential symphony,
Winds, like anxious ghosts, press close,
Siren's wail, warning of nature’s wrath.

This morning, a different tale unfolds:
Patches of blue sky, a hopeful canvas,
Tinged with pink, the sun peeks through,
Yet dark clouds linger, reluctant to depart.

Florae, drenched and resilient,
Trees burst forth, their blossoms defiant,
Leaves unfurl overnight,
Morning light wanes a gentle retreat.

Birds chirp, their melodies punctuating silence,
Grasshoppers join in, a chorus of tiny voices.
And fat Robins listen, their plump bodies still,
Attentive to the secrets whispered by worms.

Gently lapping waves kiss pristine beaches,
River's overflow, their boundaries blurred,
Drenched buildings lose definition,
As if the storm washed away their edges.

Tornadoes danced elsewhere, sparing us,
Luck or providence, we stand unscathed,
In this delicate balance of chaos and calm,
Nature’s capricious beauty reigns supreme.

Magical Night

The magic seen on a winter's night.
When the snowflakes fall so light.
A myriad of stars shine through.
Clouds halo about the moon.

When the moon is visibly low.
The sky takes on an ethereal glow.
In the silence snowflakes dance.
Starry skies speak of romance.

Dancing in Flight

Two wings danced in the sun's warm light
Thier paths collided, a beautiful sight
Eyes met, and hearts began to flutter
Love blossomed like a sweet mutter

Their wings beat as one, in perfect time
Together they soared, in loves sweet prime
In gardens full of life and hues so bright
Two butterflies danced, in loves delight

Lasting Love**

In the Rockies' embrace, we met,
Storm clouds loomed, and a pine ignited.
Fire leaped, tree to tree; we sought shelter,
Unaware, as flames waned, embers glowed.

Dawn broke, the sky bled crimson,
Ashes twirled, and smoke shrouded the air.
Eyes locked, love plunged us deep,
Fate entwined our souls.

Decades passed, the forest revived,
We revisited our first rendezvous.
Storms raged, I held you close,
We escaped to a wildflower meadow.

Beneath willows' sheltering arms,
You shivered, I kindled a fire.
Sparks soared, mimicking fireflies' dance,
Your angelic smile shone in the firelight.

You whispered love, then disappeared.
Roses' scent lingered, angels descended,
They denied my plea to join you.
Left alone, a divine voice echoed,
"Not your time."

I begged the heavens for a reunion,
Rose fragrance wrapped around me,
Ascending, embraced by love on silken wings.
We feasted on ambrosia and danced on golden shores.

Images of an Artist

An artist is a sentinel waiting for dawn.
As Sol rises in the sky is.
awash with vibrant hues
He raises his hand to the canvas
pausing; embracing; the moment.
The canvas with light gestural
strokes a novice attempt
A suffusion of light colors
of hues, blue, amber, ash.
Vibrant colors of jasmine,
and crimson. Sol sets,
The artist stands alone,
In a perfect image of what
God has already shown.

Rain falls from the sky
Dripping from leaf to green leaf
Waterfall of drops

Chrystal Fantasy

The season of winter is frigid and white.
But it also brings a myriad of delight.
We sip from the goblet of love and cheer.
Multi-faceted of snowflakes appear.

The crystalline edges of a wintry lake
Reflect the sunshine and rays they create.
We cuddle and kiss under the mistletoe.
Our hearts feel the warmth of aglow.

Autumn Roses

One by one, sensuous petals descend,
Around a host of seraphs they tend.
Angels gather petals of ancient lore,
Adorning each other, they soar and explore.

Amidst the fragile blossoms, they dance,
Yet wings entangle in the thorny expanse.
Their harmonious song, a celestial call,
Rises above, as thorns like whispers fall.

To the earth, the sharp remnants cascade,
While ascending heavenward, unafraid.
Autumn Roses, in their splendor renowned,
For tenacity and beauty are profoundly crowned.

April Brings

April, oh April,
what a theatrical muse you are!
You start with a bang, full of jokes and japes,
as pranksters plot their playful schemes.
The world's a stage, and April's the opening act,
where trees burst into leafy applause
a sea nd flowers dance in colorful costumes.
Frolicking children take their cues,
playing tag with the sun's warm rays,
jesters hold court, making us chuckle
But as the curtain falls on April's show,
we're left with a bittersweet encore
frosty epitaphs, reminding us
that all good things must come to an end.
Yet fear not, for as April exits stage left,
May sweeps in with a promise of ]
continued revelry and romance.
So let's give a standing ovation to April,
the month that sets the scene
for spring's splendid saga!

Desert

Brilliant azure skies
God's gift to us

Time is endless
eternal cycle life

Death thrives
water scarce

Windless nights
starry skies

Parched earth
bones white

Trees sighing
noontide rising

Hot breezes
mournful tune

Mirages seen
water abounds

Cool breezes
green grasses
