~ Can the bible be trusted? |
| Because I am a new believer, only two months into Christian faith as a choosing and willing adult, this question ‘Can the Bible be trusted?’ is most relevant to me. Indeed, Can I trust the Bible or am I delusional and wasting my time, coming to my senses in a fortnight wondering if this was all a dream or not? I have to my disposal The Life Application Study Bible (NIV), 2011 and the Holy Bible, pocket bible, NIV. 2011. I have to my disposal my five senses, my brain, my body and 64 years of life experience including a few studies and diplomas. I have to my disposal my recent start to a few free courses at christianleaders.org. And I am going to tackle this question, head high, and with eagerness. So, here goes! Theorem One: I lay my trust in the Bible. I gave my word to God. This is almost a false negative to me. Because I was a nonbeliever, an agnostic, atheist for 50 years who came suddenly into the realm of the Lord, Jesus Christ and The Bible which is God’s Word, I cannot NOT trust the Bible. I have had 50 years of quietly believing the stance that at best I didn’t know if the bible was God’s word and could be trusted, but at its worst it was all bullshit and make believe, a figment of the imagination of the mind. As Karl Marx said, opium to the people. So, in this new reality I can only full heartily lay my trust in God’s Word. Theorem Two: I want and need the Bible to be trustworthy and real. It is my new paradigm that God’s Word is true and can be trusted. The Holy Spirit has made this change into my life. It had little to do with me, since it was God’s work, and it had everything to do with me as God’s prodigal daughter who returned home after 50 years. To my new found foundation of my worldview, my life and my present and future I need this to be true. I want this to be true. So, in order to validate and understand if this is all real I can only read the bible with the utmost care, go to masses and listen to the sermons, talk with others in bible groups and be teachable when it comes to the word of God. Theorem Three: Prove me wrong, Life! I am over the moon as a crisp believer, everything is new, exciting and worthy of my attention. I am aware that this can change easily when life is interfering, my body keeps aching with these old age ailments, wars are continuing with more death and devastation, problems keep attacking my sanity etc. And then there is the question of the Devil, the fallen Angel that will try to keep me from believing, from my faith. I hear about his existence, but I am not yet a believer. That will probably come into existence when I am deepening my faith and my knowledge of the bible. I am now such a newbie. So, considering all three stances, my conclusion can only be: The Bible is the Word of God, I believe that and that’s my foundation. 1500 years of Truth are good enough for me. The Bible is trustworthy and I am in the process of learning how to interpret the Word. I am excited, and humbly dedicated on this new path toward salvation. As the word of God spoke to me and turned me in John 6:37-44: 37 All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day.
