The Notebook

“Did you find it?” Sandy asked meeting her brother in the hall.

“No. But I found a clue!”

“A clue to where you left your notebook?”

“Sort of. I brought it home to study for the test, but didn’t come straight home...”

“Where’d you go?”

“With Larry. I had it when I left school but didn’t bring my backpack because I was coming straight home.”

“And...?”

“And as I got to the street, Larry ran up. He just heard from his brother that the fishing poles we wanted were on sale! I didn’t have any money on me, but Larry said his father was picking him up and he would loan me the money. Larry knew I had enough at home, we were both saving for them at the same time...”

“And you left your notebook in Larry’s father’s car?”

“No. The poles sold out. But because we had cash, the guy told us we could buy them, it would just take a week for them to arrive at the store.”

“So, you left your notebook at the store?”

“No, on the way home, Lary’s father stopped for gas.”

“So, you left it in Larry’s father’s car.”

“I don’t think so... I Think I remember getting out with it when they dropped me off...”

“Where did they drop you off?”

“In our driveway. I remember holding it when I got out of the car...”

“And then?”

“I think I just came in and dropped it somewhere; I was so excited about the pole...”

“Ah... Why are you sitting so crooked on the sofa?”

“What do you mean?”

“You’re crooked... stand up!”

And out fell his notebook.

“You’re an idiot.” Sandy said.

“An idiot who will pass the test, and be fishing next week!!!
