Fireworks Fatigue


I am done with fireworks
and choose to be a non-combatant
in phony patriotic demonstrations.
I am conflicted about this flag
and this birthday
though I bought an Aldi apple pie to celebrate.
We might have hot dogs and baked beans, too.
A quasi-celebration
for our quasi democracy
with quasi freedom and justice for all.
My lawn is flying peace flags,
and my fireworks are lightning bugs.
