Dove's Writing Tips

This will be a regularly updated, continuously expanded list of writing tips. It grows.

First of all,these tips are in no particular order. How this is set up is to simply be a typed out list of advice, tips, and mini lessons on writing that I have either enountered or come up with over time. If it works for you, great, if it doesn't, feel free to discard any of these, or all of them!

1. Know when to leave it on the cutting floor. This pertains to those sections of your writing that really are not NECESSARY to the work itself, like sawdust in dog food -- of no "nutritional value" that just fills space and adds word or page counts.

2. On characters, the moment you meet them, that's when you describe them.

3. - Don't skip the research, planning, and warm up phases. This part of writing is important, and evergreen. Writing exercises are not "avoidance", they're the writer's gym.

4. Aside from traditional "actual writing pieces, consider the following:
- Mood boards
- Mock interviews with your characters
- Backstories to get a better feel for your characters, even if you don't include them in the work itself.
- Fake wikis of the history of your created worlds. Or even wikis of your used, non-fictional worlds.
