Observations from a theater kid

we all choose the version of ourselves we present to the world...

The world is a screenplay, a game of charades
That actors and artists are trying to play
Convincing each other they are who they say
Inside this united, deception crusade

We cheer for the villains, though we can't escape
Their liars and henchmen, Strong-willed and depraved
Each forcing the others to yield to their way
Inside this united, pretentious blockade

Some call themselves heroes, though they are no better
Inflated by egos, they'll apply their fetters
Condemning the outcasts, unholy as lepers
And gifts to their goddess, misguided love letters

And as the lights dim, the show comes to a close
The heroes and villains alike, stand morose
Together in death, no longer opposed
Their conflicts remain theatrical prose

To let someone close, should that be our goal
Requires entire removal of clothes
Masks, armor, and shields, revealing the whole
Our entire heart, including the soul
