This prologue is about how Kalama lost her parents and got adopted. |
| I remember long ago of how I lost my parents. Its like losing a pet only worse. But before that they're alive and living with me and my little brother Tootagan. Their names were Tane and Kissa Aquarius, My mama and papa would spend time with Tootagan and I like all parents(well almost all of them). I had a normal childhood, living in the northern water tribes is survival at the fittest. Papa and mama always taught us to use our instincts but also think of others first. With snow and ice, its easy for us, my mama was a traveler, she would to new places, bring back super cool stuff and sold them for money for us to live off of. While my papa was a fisher he brings freshly caught fish home for dinner. He also brings seal, crab, shrimp, and lobster. One day mama was getting ready to explore the foreign lands again. Then she went off on her boat and we bid her goodbye, little did I know that its the last goodbye ever. As usual we were taught how to hunt and fish by papa, I played in the snow with Tootagan, and we both attended school. Then Papa was back from his fishing trip and he showed us mama's necklace its a bronze ankh with a string of small red beads. Papa's face had tears streaming down his face. "Papa what's wrong?" I asked. "Yeah and why are you crying? Tootagan chimed in. "Kids, your mother is no longer alive anymore," he answered. "Her necklace is all that is left of her," he added. It is then that Tootagan and I started crying too we never understood death especially me, but now we do. Papa hugged us and he sobbed too. We had memorial for mama because her body was never found. Now I'm wearing her necklace as a to remember mama by. A few days later Papa went out on a fishing trip. Days past and papa isn't back. Tootagan was worried so I suggest we find papa. The neighbor arrived with a big body he said, "There was a big storm and your father didn't make it out alive." He threw the body on the snowy ground and it was Papa. I sobbed and Tootagan sobbed. We were orphans now. The second memorial didn't help us cope with the fact we were orphans. We went to each wooden cabin and igloo but every time our guardians ended up dead. We were about to give up until Kessho and Jikan the chiefs of our tribe arrived we were adopted. Luckily they're still alive we couldn't have been happier. |
