I wonder if my life might play better on screen than it does a reality. If this were a movie, it’d probably be one of those slow French films where nothing happens and everyone looks out windows, smoking through their existential crises. I’d be waiting for the plot to pick up—but it never would. Maybe with a nice soundtrack? Quietly, beneath the noise, a faint tune starts to form in my mind. Slipping in, like it always does when things get too close. Too heavy. Gnossienne No. 3. Erik Satie. The kind of music Hollywood uses as a background noise for emotional clichés. Slow-motion, people staring out of windows, deep and tortured. Fitting. After all, I’m a bit of an emotional cliché myself. |
