A deeply reflective poem about recognizing healing in life's quiet, ordinary moments. |
| It did not happen when the sun returned, nor when the world apologized for everything it had broken. Healing arrived without knocking. It hid itself inside ordinary hours, between washing a coffee cup, answering a message without rehearsing every word, and realizing I had walked an entire afternoon without carrying the weight of yesterday on my shoulders. I looked for the ache the way a tongue searches for the place where a tooth once lived. It was gone. Not forgotten, absence has never erased love, but transformed into something that no longer demanded to be touched. That was the moment. Not when I laughed, because grief can laugh. Not when I smiled, because sadness knows that language too. It was when I stopped waiting for the wound to speak first. The silence between my heartbeats no longer frightened me. Empty chairs became simply chairs. Old songs became melodies again instead of open doors. I realized I had begun planting flowers without wondering who might someday leave them behind. The future, which had once felt like a room with no windows, had quietly learned the shape of morning. No choir sang. No miracle announced itself. Only this: I caught my own reflection, smiled at the stranger who had carried me this far, and kept walking, not because I had forgotten the storm, but because, for the first time, I no longer checked the sky to see if it was coming back. |
