A tribute to the fallen |
| Two by two in the dusky morning, hear the bugle's call. Two by two the ranks are forming near the muster hall. Two by two stand horse and caisson there beside the wall. Where went the noble son a-riding, riding out one morn. He wore his pauldrons, and his gorget, chain and gambeson. Two by two dressed all in linens, white and purple breast. Two by two with sword and gauntlet crossed upon the chest. Two by two in splendor vaunted, laying down to rest. He bore your favor, noble lady, lace upon his mount, Charged into the foe undaunted, lance set strong and stout. Two by two now, at attention, hear the spoken name. Two by two in destined call to glory and to fame. Two by two in lines unbroken ne'er to rise again. |
