A Very Good Kitty

A quiet tribute to the healing love of a cat whose presence speaks louder than words.

They say goodness is loud,
a medal,
a headline,
a name remembered.
But sometimes
it arrives on silent paws,
slipping through abandoned afternoons
to settle beside the one
who has forgotten
how warmth feels.
It asks for nothing.
No promise.
No applause.
Only a small corner
where grief can breathe
without being alone.
Its purr is not a sound,
but a stitch,
closing invisible tears
the world insists
were never there.
Long after hands grow still,
after chairs remain empty
and voices become photographs,
a single trail of pawprints
crosses the dust,
as if love itself
refuses to move out.
Perhaps that is why
the gentlest souls
are sometimes born
with whiskers,
bright eyes,
and a heart
too gentle
to prove
what love already knows.
