Someone gets an unexpected delivery (Flash Fiction). |
| The words "You got a package" snapped Ashley out of her gloom. "That's strange," she replied. "I wasn't expecting anything... especially not here at the office." "I think maybe someone sent gifts to a bunch of people at the office," said the coworker delivering the package. "You're not the only one with a box like that." An unexpected gift, seemed just the thing to brighten Ashley's dreary workday. She looked at the box which seemed a bit odd, it had a sort of vent on two sides. There was no address for the sender on the label, it only said C.D.S. When the box was opened there were two things. One was a letter, but what demanded immediate attention was a small crying kitten. Within a matter of minutes, there were other cries heard from around the office, as well as gasps, laughs and a few sneezes. Ashley turned her attention to the letter that accompanied her new companion, hoping for an explanation. All it said was, "Welcome to the Cat Distribution System's Kitten Club! And congratulations on your new furever friend." Ashley looked around the office; this had to be a joke. Everyone else who had gotten a package seemed to be thinking the same thing. They were all looking over the tops of their cubicles in confusion. Slowly, the near panic seemed to fade and people sat back down. Some kittens climbed up onto shoulders, some started trying to play with paperclips, and Ashley's kitten started kneading her sweater and purring like a little motor. In that moment she was sure, the little fluffy bundle was a wonderful gift. The office manager probably would've complained... if the Cat Distribution System hadn't sent him a package too.
