A gothic poem that's speaker is stuck in a dark traumatic memory. |
| Oh mysterious man of the night, won't you shine your torch so bright? For I remember somewhere in the pouring rain, and how I learned to bear the pain. Oh mysterious man of the night, won't you grant me everlasting sight? For I remember something deep in my brain, it's a memory that clings just like a chain. Oh mysterious man of the night, won't you be my guiding light? For I remember something that is profane, it's something that's not quite humane. Oh mysterious man of the night, won't you help me take off this blight? For I remember that dark day on the train, the unforgiving day when I lost Mary Jane. Oh mysterious man of the night, won't you free me from my fight? For I remember seeing her red stain, on the side of the train's windowpane. Oh mysterious man of the night, won't you realize this knot is tight? For I remember holding her in vain, before I saw your suitcase and cane. Oh mysterious man of the night, do you now see why I write? For I remember lying in the pouring rain, alongside the tracks, being broken in pain. |
