When words just won't come

He looked down into the face
That mirrored his
Same blue eyes
(he'd been told)
Same blonde hair
(he touched it gently, grey?)
Her voice was a sweet prattle
(a nervous habit)
He was leaving her
To start a new life
His new life

She had taken the news well
Stoic acceptance
(at least on the inside, like him)
The time had come to leave
(blue eyes swimming, his or hers?)
Her cool hand cups his face
(how many fevers had it soothed)
He remembered fears calmed
Sorrows allayed
Accepting life's trials.

It was now time to leave her
Plane awaited
(he looked away, not knowing what to say)
"Well, guess it's time."
(tell her, she deserves to hear it)
"What's wrong?"
(her face giving way to sorrow)
"I'm trying to see the boy,
In the man that stands before me."
No need for words.
