entry for Polly's Handle Contest

The Hippo has a H U G E body
It has to carry around,
Which is why it likes the water
As opposed to solid ground.
In water, it moves as gracefully
As a sylph-like ballerina,
On the mud baked ground
It lumbers fast
No animal is meaner.

In places afar where Hippos live
Their reputation is one of fear
They kill more people
That get in their way
Than lions, every year.

The moral of this story is
Let sleeping Hippos lie,
Don't attempt to go too near to one
Or you'll end up as
"Dead- person-mud- pie"
