Yes there was adventure, dragons, and treasure, but it also touched on the day to day lives of the Dwarves. I really felt like I was in a Dwarven hall listening to a great ballad. 2nd: "A Dwarf in the Dark" -why: I enjoyed this story because it too dealt with common interaction between Dwarves, but still found room for adventure. I think the beginning was a little off pace with the rest of the story, but overall I enjoyed it enough to choose it as second best. 3rd "Invalid Item" -why: The relationship between Elves and Dwarves has been the subject of many books and stories. I think this story really does the concept justice. The supporting characters intrigued me and at the stories end I found myself wanting to know what happened to Scythe and the looming evil. I feel this is just the beginning of a larger story. quintin picks: 1st: "Invalid Item" -why: I really enjoyed this story. I thought the relationship between Siondra and Thorak was nicely written. My only question is what comes of Scythe? He was an interesting character, but is there anymore to his story? But a great story; very enjoyable. 2nd: "Invalid Item" -why: Great Story. The interaction between the brothers is really wonderful, and the story flowed nicely. Though I did find the opening a bit distracting with so much information on that set of characters, they were created in such a way that they seemed very real. All in all, a wonderful story. 3rd:(tie) "Invalid Item" -why: A nicely written piece. Faber and Kindel are a great odd couple. I especially liked the scene in the tavern, with Kindel wielding a spoon. I do wonder how Kindel survived though, from being punged into the darkness. I think that it is an idea that can be expanded upon. But all in all, a good and often funny story. "Invalid Item" - why: A great adventure for three dwarven brothers. I enjoyed the idea of the dwarves seeking adventure in the face of boredom, thinking that their "talents" could be put to good use. I think it may have been interesting if they did indeed make it to their destination, to then realize that perhaps they left their one true home. Also, the fairy seemed a bit mean spirited and ungrateful to the dwarves for someone who would have no doubt died if it were not for them. But it is a nice story with a very interesting spin on dwarves. Runners-Up We enjoyed reading all the entries submitted to the contest. Unfortunately, everyone can’t win first place. But we would like to thank everyone who entered. Thanks to everyone who entered the contest. Without your entree this contest would have never been possible.
