A Different Kind of Hero

A poem about how someone affected my life.

anxiety level rising.
fear taking control.

trusted friends pointing,
laughing,
ridiculing.

mind begins to crumble,
falling into an endless abyss.
falling.
falling.

well-known hand grabs hold.
eyes travel up outstretched arm,
to shoulder,
to neck,
to face,
face of a friend,
pulling up.
up.
up.

out of panic.
out of darkness.
out of nightmare.

calming aura.
soothing words.
friendly expressions.

unlikely hero
walked into my life
changing it for the better,
forever,
for good.

never took back his action,
never took back his swear,
i’ll always remember,
he was there.
