A poem about my disease--Lupus. Some days I cannot stand how it effects me. |
Lupus It came uninvited. She never heard the footsteps. It was the grand imposter, feeding upon her greatest weakness. It worked without detection, in absolute silence. Restraining it's prey, with pain and misery. It brought with it an army, of inflammation and disease, which had ultimate power over her. Incapacitating her in less than a month. It celebrated it's victory, as she lost her ability to walk. Knowing the fragile woman had no knowledge of the invasion. Author's note-- Lupus is called the "great imitator" which is why it is difficult to diagnose. Once we were sure of my diagnosis, and treatment began, I turned things around on my uninvited guest. |
