sometimes the winning is in the losing
I should get the Tony.
I've worked for it.
You worked for it too.
You had the walk-in part;
none the less
a nominee
for best supporting fake.
We act
so natural
in our assigned parts.
I never led you on.
You gave the cues
and I followed accordingly.
When we forgot the lines
we improvised.
The script read,
"Let them marry and
live happily ever after."
The author left out something:
I don't love you.
I'm supposed to say 'yes'
to your question.
I'll be damned if I will.
Yet,
I have.
I've played the part.
EVERYone says
how convincingly the part
was portrayed.
If I could walk off
and leave this play. . .
What?
The show must go on?
Oh, yes.
Rehearsing the lines
we say to each other;
practicing the moves so
that we meet in unison.

This actress has had it.

Exit stage right.

No play
runs forever.
