Memorial Day 2005: A Ghazal

My beautiful song is of peace.
The absence of war is not peace.

Rows of crosses line the hot sand.
Without justice there is no peace.

White crosses line Normandy's beach.
The prayer in our hearts is for peace.

Each family has its own story.
May loved ones come home in one piece.

Across the water Iraq burns.
The fire in our hearts is for peace.

And God said,"The fire next time."
God blesses the ones who wage peace.

Patty's summer wish is for peace.
All people living life in peace.
