the first day of therapy
To be...or Therapy?

Opening night
Act I Scene I
My mind's gone blank.
The Doc's just a voice.
I am panicked, sweating.
I put my jacket on the back of the chair.
I smooth it out---make sure everything's perfect.
The psychiatrist's off-stage.
She doesn't say a thing.
I brush off my skirt.
Sit down. Stand up.
I am shaky.
Dripping with sweat.
On stage----minutes of silence.
Without saying a word, I know she knows
my whole story.
Everyone has stories.
Everybody.
Sometimes things go so wrong it's obvious.
Little things will get to you.
And then.....
I remember the rest of the song.
