| The original poster wanted to know about hot springs in an area that doesn't have any. I replied to an earlier reply: "If I may whine for a second... when I go to a place, I look around to see what's available. I don't demand Thai food in Italy (I love kao pad) or snow in Costa Rica (I know where there's a hot spring though). I look around... and take advantage of what a region has to offer. That said... it doesn't hurt to ask... as long as "no" is an acceptable answer. Unfortunately, I read too many insane comments from [entitled] expats in Pattaya. Udon Thani has great respectable massages across from Nong Prajak. It has good markets, good transportation connections, a vibrant city vibe. There's always something going on. Nong Khai is close and has a wonderful German bakery and the views along the Mekong promenade are great as well. But, alack, no hot springs. Non-stop round trip UTH-CNX is as low as 3,000 baht [$104]." The original poster posted in German... the short answer is "no". |

There are huge lakes, mighty rivers (Kong, Mun, Chi), canals, ponds and rice fields everywhere. People eat many types of fish. These white fleshed fish are salted and grilled. And taste wonderful! Not true... there's a direct (albeit slow and 3rd class = cheap) train. Roi Et - Buriram had 2 bus routes listed (7 hours) while the fastest was a taxi for $50. Except for high class tourists, jet-setting between beaches and Chiang Mai, the backpacker may find online sources useless. I'd like to correct that. | To Neil: 1. I try to blog every day but some days it's just the basics so I don't forget. I need to do a blog entry focused on what I've learned about traveling, eating, staying places and the people! 2. I met a young man from Utah (his twin lives here too) and his wife from Hua Hin (she's from Surin). They have a daughter and a son. 3. I've taken a bus in the USA for 30+ hours; but, I was "younger". 14 hours *sigh* Yes, Mochit... I'd rather not have to transfer buses. 4. Suvanaphum is very old and important in the history of Roi Et. I do want to visit; but, my lack of Thai meant that I didn't figure out how to get there. I thought mini-van or songthaew. The bus to Surin goes there. Easy-peasy day trip. Now I know. 5. I plan to come back Dec-Jan-Feb but nothing is planned yet. I'd stay one month in Roi Et if I could. 6. I have Line (new to me) and Messenger. 7. I go back to the USA Nov. 10. 9094 |
